A door stop is the thin strip of moulding that runs around the inside of a door frame. The door closes against it, which keeps the door sitting flush in the frame and covers the gap between the door edge and the frame. This one is the Contemporary style: a flat face with one angled edge.

  • What it is: One length of door stop, sold by the piece: 14 ft long in both MDF and finger joint pine.
  • Size: 3/8" thick by 1-3/8" wide.
  • Material (choose one): MDF (medium density fibreboard, a smooth engineered wood board with no grain and no knots) or finger joint pine (solid pine wood joined from shorter sections). Both come primed white. Pick the one you prefer on the product page.
  • Profile (the shape the edges are cut to): A flat face with one angled edge, for a plain, modern look.
  • Finish: Primed white, so a base coat is already on and it is ready for your paint.
  • How many pieces: A standard door frame takes about 17 ft of door stop: one length for each side and one across the top. Two lengths cover one door with plenty left over.
  • About the photo: we picked an image that matches this trim as closely as we could, so it is a close look at the shape and finish. It is not a photo of the exact piece you receive, and the proportions can differ a little from the real thing, especially between sizes.

How Much Do I Need?

A planning estimate. Pieces are sold full length, so always measure your openings and walls before you order.

Baseboard
Add up every wall. A 12 by 14 ft room is 52 ft.
Doorways, closets and cased openings. About 3 ft each comes off.
