A plain flat board made from MDF, which stands for medium density fibreboard: a smooth engineered wood board with no grain and no knots, so it takes paint well. Square 4 Sides means all four sides are cut flat and square, with no shaped edge, so it works anywhere you want a clean, simple board. Now at a clearance price.

• What it is: One flat board, 12 ft long, sold by the piece.
• Size: 1 x 6 is the trade name, not the real measurement. Like most trim boards it measures a little under: the width is close to 5-1/2", and MDF boards this size usually run between 5/8" and 3/4" thick. We have not measured these pieces, so ask through the Contact page if you need the exact size before you order.
• Edges: Square on all four sides, so it butts tight against another board or a wall.
• Finish: Primed white, so a base coat is already on and it is ready for your paint.
• Where to use it: As flat casing (the trim around a door or window), as baseboard (the trim along the bottom of a wall), as a window apron (the flat trim just under a window ledge), for closet trim or a light-duty shelf, or as the wide boards in a board-and-batten wall (wide boards set upright with narrow strips covering the joints). Indoor use only: MDF swells if it gets wet, so keep it off window ledges where condensation collects, and support any shelf every couple of feet.
• Price: $13.31 per 12 ft piece, regular $20.87. That is about $1.11 a foot instead of about $1.74.
• About the photo: the image is a drawing, not a photo of the piece you receive, so its proportions are approximate. The edges on the real board are square.
• Cut for transport: A 12 ft piece will not fit in most vehicles, so on request we can cut pieces down for transport, for example into two 6 ft lengths. A 6 ft piece is too short for the upright beside a standard door, so plan your cuts before you ask. Ask through the Contact page when you order.
