Casing is the trim board that frames a door or window and covers the gap between the frame and the drywall. This one is a plain flat board with softly rounded edges, for a simple, modern look. Use it as casing, or anywhere you want a simple flat trim line. Made from MDF, which stands for medium density fibreboard: a smooth engineered wood board with no grain and no knots, so it takes paint well. Now at a clearance price.

• What it is: One piece of flat casing, 14 ft long, sold by the piece, in four widths.
• Sizes: Four sizes, listed as thickness by width: 1/2" x 2-1/4", 15/32" x 2-3/4", 1/2" x 3" and 1/2" x 3-5/8".
• Profile (the shape the edges are cut to): Eased two edges means the two long edges of the face are softly rounded instead of sharp. Both edges are the same, so there is no right or wrong way round.
• Finish: Primed white, so a base coat is already on and it is ready for your paint.
• How many pieces: Casing goes on both faces of the wall around a doorway. Each face takes two uprights of about 84 in and one header across the top, so a standard door uses four uprights and two headers. Three 14 ft pieces cover a standard door with some left over, about 1.5 pieces per face. Measure your opening before you order.
