Casing is the trim board that frames a door or window and covers the gap between the door frame and the drywall. This one is the Modern Farmhouse style: flat and simple, with no carved detail. Made from MDF, which stands for medium density fibreboard: a smooth engineered wood board with no grain and no knots, so it takes paint well. Now at a clearance price.

• What it is: One piece of casing, 14 ft long, sold by the piece.
• Size: 5/8" thick by 2-3/4" wide.
• Profile (the shape the edges are cut to): One long edge is square and the other is sloped. Install it with the square edge against the door frame and the sloped edge facing out onto the wall. Two shallow grooves run down the back (relief cuts that help it sit flat on a wall that is not perfectly even).
• Finish: Primed white, so a base coat is already on and it is ready for your paint.
• How many pieces: Casing goes on the wall around the opening, and a doorway is usually trimmed on both faces of the wall. One face takes about 17 ft: one piece down each upright and one across the top. Two 14 ft pieces cover one face with plenty left over. Measure your opening before you order.
• Price: $8.40 per 14 ft piece, regular $11.48. That is 60 cents a foot instead of 82 cents.
• About the photo: the image is a drawing of the profile and finish, not a photo of the piece you receive, so its proportions are approximate.
• Cut to 7 ft: A 14 ft piece will not fit in most vehicles, so on request we cut pieces into two 7 ft lengths for transport. A 7 ft piece is a little short for the upright of a standard doorway, so plan your cuts before you ask. Ask through the Contact page when you order.
